How to Reuse Coffee Sleeves for Travel

Jan

Have any of these hanging around?

Us too.  We seem to accumulate these when we leave our reusable coffee sleeves at home.  But it seems like such a waste to throw them out, so we started thinking of all the ways we can reuse these…for travel of course!

First, they are surprisingly useful for adding a little extra protection to souvenirs and other items traveling with you and can be configured different ways to do so, such as stacking on top of each other to protect a glass or bottle, or put one inside the other in opposite directions to make a little box (shown here protecting a hand-painted gourd art owl we brought home from a recent trip).  (You can also try using these when packing for a move, or storing holiday ornaments.)

Use to store jewelry when you travel.  You can grab a new coffee sleeve and make appropriate slits/holes for the jewelry you’re bringing on that particular trip, for a custom jewelry holder every time!  Remember, you can reuse gift cards to hold jewelry also.

Turn your cardboard sleeve into a reusable coffee sleeve – these may not last as long as silicone or cloth reusable sleeves, but they typically last more than one use.  Have a little fun and personalize it!  Or, you can have an artistic friend or your child decorate it for you (maybe a fun way to entertain a little one on the plane!), making it a cozy reminder of someone you love.  Watch a video about it here.

A coffee sleeve is also a great place to store those binder clips during your trip so you can implement those travel binder clip tips we’re always going on about.  (A reader reminded us they are also called “bulldog clips” in some places.)

Finally, if you’re in a very DIY, crafty mood, apparently you can make a mini album out of coffee sleeves.  The sleeves are the pages, so they can also function as little pockets.  This would be a creative way to remember a trip – small enough to have one for each trip, and you could store some fun things in the “pockets” like ticket stubs or other mementos from your trip (again, more on our souvenir discussion here).   Or you can use one to make a tiny notebook, then have a little travel journal for each trip.

If you have any other ideas, we would love to hear them!
